Yamaha Diagnostic System (YDS)...how to read your hours and errors

Can someone post a picture of a screenshot of the YDIS software that shows an error code? I could not find any error codes, but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place. I'm trying to track down why my port engine occasionally dies at idle, even after a plug change.

If you look at the file I attached on post #1 you can see the diagnosis section has one record. If you grab the file via YDS and Save AS CSV - that is the exact result. (my error is an over heat that happened when I was on Lake Minocqua trying to get to Tomahawk Lake and took a wrong turn and ended up in the weeds!)

I guess this means I have not had a code on it since I purchased it with 47 hours in Sept 2012. My intermittent die at idle and my port no wake mode flakyness aren't showing up. I'll try the no-wake mode fix next spring, and hopefully yet another plug change will remedy the die at idle. I did test my fuel injectors with the YDS and they all seemed to be fine.

That is something I can look into but I haven't noticed a difference from the starboard. It may be related to the no-wake as well. It doesn't happen on every outing. When it happens it's usually idling to pick up a skiier or bring the rope to someone in the water.

I don't believe so @jlcj7 . All of the previous boats had the connector behind the starboard round inspection panel in the engine compartment. I haven't looked on my newer 240, but I assumed they were still behind that cover. They are marked for each engine. Again, I may be wrong but they didn't used to be out I the open.

I think you are right if that's a 210.

Ok thanks... I re-read Julian's first post a bit closer and he did mention that it could be in that location for the 210s.

So i unplug at plug and plug in the YDS cable, correct?

What is that random loose plug in my picture that is hanging off by a zip tie/fishing string? (below my yellow circle)

That is the plug to keep water/debris out during the time when the plugs are not mated. IE engine swap or manufacturing.

Has anyone tried to get the software running on Linux? I have a laptop with mint, which I think is a Debian variant and main pc is an iMac.

Just read my hours. I am at 73.4 hours on one and 73.5 on other.

Apparently i idle around more than anything else... Also interesting that my starboard engine seems to get over 8000 RPMs more than my port engine. throttles must not be set perfectly, but close.

I bought the boat new in December 2011, so used during seasons in 2012, 2013 and 2014 so far, so i guess i am averaging 24.5 hours per year...

YDS 1.33 & Windows 8 confirmed to work on 2012 242 L/S.

I bought the cable and software from eBay from the seller that was linked earlier in this thread. I checked my engines today with the YDS software and had no issues with it at all. Followed the instructions in the first post and everything worked great!!
I took a couple pics and put some instructions on them to show the exact cables to use in the boat and how to disconnect them. I figured it out from previous posts but it took me a few minutes to get it. Thought this might make it easier for someone else in the future. Giving back to the community that has definitely saved me countless hours and $$!! Also anyone in SE Michigan that needs the cable & software let me know and you can borrow mine.
