I heard this before and it is incorrect. The 240 hull is a completely different hull from the 230. I went as far as measuring the chines and comparing the shape and they are completely different. The new hull is also a completely new hull.
I am not saying it wasn't changed, I am saying it is basically the same hull. And sure, change up the chines and move a strake here or there, but it was still the same basic shape with the same deadrise. The other stuff was not performance related. I buy your comparison however, because if you make any change in a hull mold, your still making a new mold I am sure. But as yamaha hulls go, they are very similar and not a drastic change. Now, this new hull, it looks vastly different with the keel droop and transom changes. I expect the new boat is worth more. Just not sure I see the wisdom in 5-10% price increases every year.

Why are the boat prices going up so much? I bought new 232 limited s for 39000 are the new ones really 23000 dollars better?
Inflation, demand and value.....also, your boat is a 23' boat, so better to take a mid point price between a 24 and a 21 as a comparison to get to the 23' price. But you are correct....they've been going up year over year by way more than inflation (I'm pretty sure-I'll have to go do some math now!)

To me though, that is a downfall. When I read this, it means to me that you can't do the spins and slide around on turns at speed though. Or, am I missing something?
We'll have to take @Williamsone46 perspective for now....I'm guessing those jet pumps will still put out some serious turning power, and the boat might not slide, but it may well cut a turn just as hard??

I was thinking of a two part poll on related subjects, who would buy an after market keel (e.g. Two keel guards combined to make a 2" keel that runs about half the length of the boat) and what would you pay for it?

Having been through the process of obtaining a couple of patents my guess is that the wording to cover articulating keels built into the hull and separate keel designs added to the hull is to close a loop hope that a competitor might use to add similar keels to their boats.
.....or for us to add the same thing to our boats.

My thinking is that the patent would not prevent us adding or someone bringing to market an add on keel for our boats. No one could sell an add-on that included the rudder but we already have fins available.

My idea does not include a rudder (because I already have fins that move in perfect synch with the steering nozzles), call it a non articulating keel or an extended keel guard.

Not having a propeller exposed is a great benefit to a jet boat. However, in my opinion, another great benefit to a jet boat is being able to slide in turns and do spins. I just hope this new rudder on these new boats doesn't prevent their new owners from experiencing this.

I have never been able to spin my 212X when I had it.

I don't think that new keel/rudder combo is going to allow the boats to slide.
I agree. Which is why, for me, I don't see this as an improvement. However, I realize I am in the minority as most people on this board want better slow speed tracking.

I have to be honest - I've never spun mine either. The wife and kiddies wouldn't like it.
When its been just me and my brother - we've taken some ridiculously hard turns. She starts the slide, and then just digs in and carves - you better be holding on to something. But I've never intentionally set out to spin her.

Regarding steering, I was just going through the specs on the new boats and it looks like they added rack and pinion steering this year. Its under the "Technical" section. I dont see that as a feature in previous years.

I would think the rack and pinion is from the jet nozzle to the new rudder.

Im not so sure about that....

The rudder is just connected with a pushrod to the nozzle.

The rack and pinion is behind the helm where the steering wheel shaft connects to the steering cables that go to the back of the boat

Take a look behind there, I think I remember seeing a boomerang shaped control arm that manipulates the cables... I could be wrong.

The previous boats didn't have a rack at all that I could discern.
