Ahhh. Once enough parts are thrown off a diesel they can be bullet proof too... Lol
Yeah, that's true....I also hear that the GDE tune is the way to go, supposedly you can really wake these 3.0 diesel up if you want.
 
There is a seacock valve at the inlet that I close for the crossing. It is on the starboard side of the starboard engine on the floor of the engine compartment....one big handle on it.

Looks like this (pretty sure up is open, down is closed -this one is closed, but not certain of this, @Larkintx took this so perhaps he can confirm?)

The only issue with that is you will trash those impellers running them dry in few minutes if the system pops on (unexpectedly), but I think that may be a way to go with the Connext E-series or it might start throwing codes....

For those with 24' Yamaha boats do you plan on bringing extra fuel. I had an idea for an extra 10 gallons but it's not working out like planned. What tanks are you using and where are you mou ting them.

2015+ 240s should bring extra fuel. Several ran out during the 2015 and 2017 crossings

I will have a couple small 2.5 gallon cans they will sit right under the captains chair
 
I would suggest every boat brings extra fuel (Yamaha that is). You never know if you will have to take a detour around a storm increasing the distance of your drive. But that is just me and my anal retentiveness contingency planning type guy. I simply took three 5 gallon cans and strapped them down to the lower swim step (strapping them to the handle there. They stayed put without moving an inch. We went out to rescue a 2011 that ran out of gas (was cavitating) and not sure what year @Drift Away is....

Ok are you comfortable with 5 extra gallons? You being a patron eases my concern. I could pack 3-2.5 gallons much easier than 2-5 gallon cans.
 
@Betik Stuck with cbp trying to approve a permit for a Canadian vessel. The red tape is a nightmare. Will give it a chance till tomorrow evening to get a permit. If it doesn’t happen then I will fly out to DC and pull my chaparral 270 to ft Lauderdale in time for the Sunday crossing.

I found some tall/narrow 5 gal tanks on Amazon that I think will fit well behind the captains and passenger chairs. I bought 4 so if anyone needs one, let me know I don’t think I’ll need 20 gal.

I'm only on planning to take one 5 gallon can.. That good for a 23 @Bruce? I know u don't take any but I like that peace of mind.
If I still had my '07 SX230, I would not be bringing extra fuel, the boat never ever came close to running out.

Edit: not bring extra fuel on my Cobalt either.
 
I don't think I need it but knowing its there on my first crossing will make me breath a little easier..
You will also be with boats carrying extra gas.

I also figure bringing 15 gallons of gas will save me at least $30 (I'm cheap that way!)

I will have 3 2.5 gallons so 7.5 gallons total. I feel the same way as @Andy S I feel fairly confident I won't need it but look at it as more of an insurance policy that if that sands is out of fuel I have a little gas to get around with.
 
@bronze_10, I have never carried extra fuel for my 2007 SX230.

If I ever do it will be purely for the purpose of helping other boats.

Personally I prefer to keep the explosives in the factory tank.
