Wonder if that is because they are the cheapest... Or the most expensive?

It was probably more likely a cosmetic kind of thing like pulling the graphics off the side of our boats. He probably just preferred the naked look, the stickers were starting to peel so he just pulled them or wanted to paint the cowling to their preferred color.

You veterans have any advice, tips or tricks on packing?

You veterans have any advice, tips or tricks on packing?

  • Wrap your clothes bags (anything you want dry) in garbage bags so they stay dry and/or ensure you pack them in your driest compartment.
  • Have a ditch bag ready and handy, where everyone knows where it is. With your important papers, passports etc, flares/signaling devices, whistle, batteries for portable radios, cash, wallets etc in it. Effectively anything you MUST have to survive without the rest of your boat. Travelling in groups means less need for water, power bars etc... but can't hurt to have in there
  • don't forget the beer :-)

  • Bring enough clothes for 3 days in Bimini, make sure you have laundry detergent
  • Pack heavier items as far aft as possible
  • Balance heavier items on both side, don't put all your heavy items on one side or your boat will list
  • Pack items in small flexible containers so you can put them in every little spot
  • Bring cloth grocery bags to load all the little items from the boat to make it easier to carry to the condo
  • Pack a bag that is easily acceptable with snacks and drinks for the morning departure
  • Leave a bag with a change of clothes in your vehicle to change into after the trip back to the states

And don't forget some silly strong insect repellent.

Wherever your deck drain is located - make sure nothing obstructs it, keeping in mind things can move around during crossing...

We needed that the one year we “saved moneys” and stayed VRBO.

Ok, I'll bite, what is VRBO?

Every year there are people that decide to stay elsewhere. Once upon a time, @DieselCamel and @veedubtek rented a very nice house on the canals south of Bimini Sands. Doing so they were able to get acquainted with the locals many of which were the mosquitos and no-see-ums swarming them.

Several times I have considered staying longer and cheaper on the canals but I always remember the valuable lesson those two taught us.

The other complication is that those that stay offsite feel excluded because they are not around to make plans at night and in the mornings.
