2018 Bimini June trip (June 24th - June 30th)

The other complication is that those that stay offsite feel excluded because they are not around to make plans at night and in the mornings.

The bugs didn't bother me so much, but that right there was key ^.

On the flip side, we were walking distance from Mackey's and that amazing seafood pizza, but that's gone now. :(

Accommodations were great and cheaper. But not being able to sit outside in the evening sucked. If the golf cart that was included would have worked probably wouldn’t have been so bad. As @veedubtek wouldn’t ride me over on the bicycle handle bars.

Being close to Mackey’s would have been nice.

The Thirsty Turtle is offering good pizza on S Bimini. Last year they had some ex Mackey’s staff working there. They may be able to make something close for you.

We tried three locations to try to find a replacement for Mackey’s last year. Edith’s on N. Bimini was our favorite. We called our order in from the water and picked up the pizza by boat. There is no dock and it is in shallow water but was fine for our jets.

Wherever your deck drain is located - make sure nothing obstructs it, keeping in mind things can move around during crossing...

My soul moved around last year

Every year there are people that decide to stay elsewhere. Once upon a time, @DieselCamel and @veedubtek rented a very nice house on the canals south of Bimini Sands. Doing so they were able to get acquainted with the locals many of which were the mosquitos and no-see-ums swarming them.

Several times I have considered staying longer and cheaper on the canals but I always remember the valuable lesson those two taught us.

The other complication is that those that stay offsite feel excluded because they are not around to make plans at night and in the mornings.
I agree. We stayed in the canals last year. We have a 150 ft dock wifi and direct tv with a tv in every room Including the bathroom the house was bad ass. We had no issues with the bugs but we did run into missing out on some of the comradery with the people at the sands.

That year you guys were over there the bugs were rough back on that side. @Andy S , Cindera and I went to dinner back at Mackey's and had to wait for the resort shuttle (a 1985 ford bronco with a rear seat and a milk crate for a passanger seat) to come get us for about 15 min and it was almost unbearable standing outside they were so bad for that 15 minutes.

I hoping the bugs aren't too bad at our pool.3-1200x900.jpg

I’m sure resort world has a mosquito program in effect but they also tore down most of the vegetation over there so there are fewer places for the bugs to hide in the heat so I’m sure it’s not as bad normally there either.

The company will not be nearly as nice.

When the wind blows north East Wells will provide plenty of blood suckers to eat on the land lubbers at the resort that is determined to destroy Bimini.

I saw the video Rob posted on YouTube looked like you guys had a great time, anyway.

Seadeck installed today, flag holder customized with a spot weld, antenna holders installed in ski locker, boat cleaned out and partially packed, custom reverse steering assists designed, welded up and installed, anchor shades installed and tested. On top of the ten hours yesterday with the radio upgrades and sundry, its been a hell of a weekend. Three busy days to go for us before we head south!

I'm jelly right now... my work schedule is empty for next week wonder if I could convince wife to make a last minute crossing... time to start bugging her.

Speaking of bugs I might need to bring one of my automated misting systems for mosquito/gnats and all other insects next summer when we are planning trip for 19... my wife took camping with youth from church last week and her campsite was bug free.

Bimini Sands has a fogging truck making daily trips around the resort. But they can’t spray the entire island. When the wind changes and especially near the lake to the East it is difficult to control the insects.

Saying that, my family has not been disturbed by biting insects at Bimini Sands since 2014.

Because of spraying or something you did in particular?

Bimini Sands improved their insect management under new management in 2015. Then they improved it again under new, new management in 2017. Our July group will be able to see how the new, new, new management handles insects. I know that the POA will insist on at least the current level of prevention being maintained.

I know, and I'm sorry, but I'm not very conscientious about taking photos, unfortunately. When I get going, I just get kind of focused. That's why I suck at facebook, too.

I am thinking I can write off my trip as a business expense and sell them a misting system..once installed I will have to monitor it quarterly... darn..

I plan on doing this.... you guys are going to have to listen to me talk about tools for a bit, though.
