I am thinking I can write off my trip as a business expense and sell them a misting system..once installed I will have to monitor it quarterly... darn..
Bimini Sands has a fogging truck making daily trips around the resort. But they can’t spray the entire island. When the wind changes and especially near the lake to the East it is difficult to control the insects.
Saying that, my family has not been disturbed by biting insects at Bimini Sands since 2014.
New folks, please don't underestimate these bugs. The no see ums are serious!!! We live in Florida and are around mosquitoes and no see ums on a daily basis and when in Bimini we run for cover when they come out...
I bought a tent to put in the backyard. Will that be effective to block the no see ums? I am thinking of having the kids sleep over on the beach one night just to have the experience?
On an other note I just reached Florida and crashed down for a few hours at the rest area after a hard day of driving. Got stopped at exit 1 in Georgia and got a ticket from a nice cop. Training on the Formula starts from tomorrow. The adventure begins
I'm jelly right now... my work schedule is empty for next week wonder if I could convince wife to make a last minute crossing... time to start bugging her
For the Monday crossers, there will be a captain's meeting (everyone is invited) at 7:30pm in the east end lobby of the marina view building of the Bahia Mar. We will discuss departure time, groups, and answer any questions.
Marina view building is the 4 story building next to the marina. From the below view the lobby is on the right side of the building with the entrance on the other side.

I will have to find a picture of Diana after camping in Sebastian and a round of no seeums
It’s not for the faint of heart
What did you get a ticket for?
I hope that will be the worst of it for the trip! You guys deserve a stress free trip this year
That’s for sure
Yeah....Saturday looks like flat calm at this point!! The logistics do become interesting....first thing you'd want to do is see if your condo is booked for Saturday...if not, then moving up a day might be easy. Otherwise you'd need to find another open condo or hotel room (like Bruce's favorite - Hilton resorts world- evil grin)
Thursday looks to be the best crossing day this week with Thursday to Sunday looking like days where you could invite your friends with pontoons. However the forecast is still likely to change greatly in coming days. Hopefully Monday’s decent forecast will calm a little.
Miami Nearshore is closer to the middle than the Port Everglades forecast. I preferred to use the Fort Lauderdale Nearshore forecast but it is no longer available.
So I have been looking into Saturday for a few days logistics are a nightmare the whole island is full Saturday night lodging and Marina wise. I was heavily considering crossing Saturday but it looks like it would be difficult and risky to pull off. Even if you get lodging secured I would say its a strong calculated risk you would not have marina space if the island is that full.
Opinion me on these forecasts please. the combo of pitch vs wave height, especially at speeds has me scratching my head. right now port everglades is showing .7ft waves at 2 seconds. I'm thinking this is choppy but manageable. Same with a Waverunner ? when do whitecaps roll into play ? what kind of a pitch is needed to make ..say..2ft seas bearable ?
