Hi,

We were supposed to bring home a 2014 AR192 last weekend. While inspecting the boat at delivery, we noticed a repair job in the hull which was not previously disclosed to us. We received a copy of the repair invoice and it says customer hit submerged object. Keel of boat had severe damage, structural and chines had damage. Total body and refinishing repair 97 hours so the total repair cost was just over $10,000. It was paid by the insurer (Progressive). The dealer said they were not aware of this repair and the insurance claims are monitored throughout the entire process.

Everything else (seats, engine, etc) is in great condition otherwise... It also has a JL stereo system/speakers (around $4K upgrade per dealer).

Is it even worth considering or should I walk away? What kinds of issues/risks could we potentially have in the future?

Thank you!

How long ago was the repair done, and any idea how many hours put on it since? Would give you some idea if it has been sound since the repair.

If the price is good - as in - lower priced than other comparable boats because of this, I'd consider it. If its from a dealer, you could ask for a hull warranty....?

It would have to be a really, really good deal. And I agree with @Julian, try and get a hull warranty from the dealer.

Confused, if the dealer didn't know, and the monitored insurance never revealed anything, how did you receive a repair invoice copy?

I would walk. The seller never disclosed the $10K in damage, until you inquired about it. What else haven't they disclosed?

The repair was done in Sept 2020. It has 110 hours on engine and the current owner(2nd owner bought from a family member) only put a few hours. This is a consignment. I don’t think the dealer or seller will gave any warranty.

It’s just a brokerage service. They said the seller didn’t let them know about the damage. When we noticed the repair, the dealer called the seller. He said he didn’t think it was necessary to disclose since it has been repaired. At that time, it sounded like a minor scratch/gel coat repair. We asked for more info and the seller forwarded a copy of the repair invoice and the dealer sent it to me.

My guess is they will try and get book price on it from someone who doesn't know about the prior damage. Be prepared to walk away.

Oh well… that’s a good question. However, what else could there be? The boat has only 110 hours and the engine “looks” new and they have maintenance records. I am trying to see if this is something that I should negotiate and get it for cheap or just not worth it.

I don't know much about the Yamaha hull construction, but is there any wood in the hull of a 2014 192? Normally wouldn't concern me, but severe hull damage would likely mean that water got into the hull material.

The bottom line is the seller is trying to get over on somebody. And lucky for you, it will not be you.

I would walk…If you were able to notice there was a repair, then whoever repaired it did a crappy job.

I had some damaged to a prior boat ($4k worth) and it was perfectly repaired-You would never know.

I would walk but if buying, it would need to be under 20k.

Did this happen in salt water? If so......run!

Did this happen in fresh water? If so, walk if not sold for considerably less than market value.

No way in hell I'd buy this boat. They didn't disclose the hull damage, who knows what else they are hiding.
Hitting something submerged means water intrusion and a 10K repair means it was a pretty big hole.
