Great opening round last night with great racing! I won’t offer up any spoilers, other than the track was good and the dirt looked great.

Is this indoor only? Oldest has been asking to go see some races this year. Trying to figure out something interesting and outdoor motorcross came to mind. That or AMA Superbikes. Thoughts from regular fans?

Some are outdoor and gets real interesting with deep mud sometimes.
Ama superbike is ok to watch but you miss a lot of the action because they are road courses. Supercross you can see all the action

The SX races are pretty intense! Once the mains get going it takes a lot of concentration to keep up with what is going on the whole track.. lots of great racing in the mid and back of the pack sometimes as well as the front runners..the heat races are short, 5 mins for the 250cc class and maybe a bit longer for the 450 cc bikes.

Same same with outdoor MX if you are there in person like Superbike races.. some of the superbike races have big screens where you can get the TV view of what is going on, and if you go to one of the “experiences” where you are in a big box, there are TV’s with lap times, sector times etc… pretty cool, I wish the Outdoor MX would shoe sector times as well as intervals time and whether or not people are going faster or slower than the leaders.. You are in NY, so you could go to the Unadilla, one of the legendary tracks on the circuit.

If you’ve never been to a SX race before you should go at least once! Get there early for the whole pit scene and all of the entertainment therein. I used to go early enough to see the qualifying races that are held mid day for the racers trying to make the heats, lcq’s and main event for the night, that is your best bang for the buck, the tickets are not cheap so going early gets you the most for your money. The night show starts off with fireworks and other entertainment before the nights racing begins.

Triumph entered the competition last year, and Ducati showed up with their new bike but won’t be racing it till next year when they can meet the AMA’s homolgomation rules, Ducati’s bike will be using their Desmo valve train.

Always nice to see when tires get mounted correctly.

I miss the days of Ricky, Bubba, and Chad battling it out with a little Dungey throw in there. Now it seems like Supercross is a yawn fest. One guy gets out front and checks out, or he battles from 4th or 3rd, then checks out. Just doesn't seem like there's much of a "race" anymore. IDK, maybe I'm lust missing the good ole days.

That Ducati looks sick! I'm interested in the cost, if it's going to carry the exotic price tag the road bikes carry.

Personally I miss the old race format, in the 250 class, now the 450’s, there used to be two heats, followed by two semi’s, a LCQ then the main. Now there are two heats, LCQ then main, all timed instead of laps. ALLEGEDLY (letter Kenny viewers will get this) this changed to a timed race format was the result of Alden Baker whining about the different lengths of races and his riders training regimen. Personally I think it was to appease the TV bobble heads. There’s too much blah blah blah during the races, there’s so much racing going on there’s plenty to focus on, lots of great racing going on back in the pack. One of my favorite memories was the epic battle between Ricky Johnson and David Bailey in 1986, I was at that race, everyone was on their feet during that race. This was back in the day of factory works bikes that were worth $250,000 each, in the 1980’s. If yiu happen to get to the Peterson Automotive museum in Los Angeles they have David Baileys 1986 RC 500 championship bike.

This weeks race had some surprises for sure! Yeah the race winner out on a clinic, but he and the team put in the work and it showed, lots of great racing and the favorite riders are having bike set up issues so they were riding the struggle bus.

I’d think the Duc will be right in there price wise with the other bikes.

I've seen that race a few times in old videos and highlights, it was awesome. I doubt Alden has that kind of power. I would be willing to bet the timed format just gives more consistency to the timing of the program for the broadcasters. To me it just seems there is no more disparity in the races. I miss the days when Bubba or Reed would pull out a triple or quad in the race they had been eyeing during practice and heats when everyone else was doing a double or triple. That just doesn't seem to happen anymore, they all race the same lines and same rhythms.

Have you ever seen the documentaries "dust to glory" and "A Day in the Dirt"? A Day in the Dirt is one of my favorites. Me and my riding buddies back in the day would recreate this in the Winter every year up at my buddies ranch in Bowie, TX. We had a motocross track, a cross country track laid out through the entire property, a pit bike track, and we would do 2 full days races and cooking out. It was amazing.

Sorry, you said Anaheim and Super Cross, and I had a Jeremy McGrath flashback. That guy on a Honda back in the day was unstoppable. Lapping the pack was something to see.

We are big Dixxon Flannel fans around here. And just this last week, they released a Jeremy McGrath edition to celebrate him and the kick off to the season.

When MC switched to Yamaha he was also just as bad ass…. I watched a race at Animalheim when he was a Yamaha two stroke and lost his front brake, he was intentionally casing the landing just before a corner to scrub off speed. Looks like his all time win record could be in jeopardy to ET this year.

Yes I’ve seen them all, and the Crusty Demons of Dirt vids..

Sounds like you had an awesome set up there in TX! Good times!

The first VCR we bought came with a free copy of "On any Sunday"

This and On Any Sunday II were Bruce Brown’s encore to Endless Summer. On Any Sunday II was more my time, especially when Bruce Penhall was racing Speedway..I used to go watch the Speedway races each week down in Costa Mesa, those were some wild times along with Gene Gene the Dancing Machine.
