Bimini VHF MMSI

Oh no, I prefer s thru-hull over transom mount. It's the cheap paddle wheel speedometer I don't like.

Oh, I would have kept my Glacier Bay if size wasn't and option. I needed a boat to fit in my garage :)

The paddle wheel annoys the crap out of me as well. My boat and one of my skis have that and on both the speedo will just stop working periodically. My other ski has the GPS speedo and it is so much nicer.

Oh yea, then well hook up 100 500 watt amps in parallel to a 1000 foot tower with a 50 dbi directional antenna so you two can talk! :)

I have a 100' tower if that will help. Does anyone know the EIRP limit for the VHF frequencies?

Does anyone know the EIRP limit for the VHF frequencies?

Ok, I'll continue to play :)

If we can get your vessel classified as a carrier...well then :

47 CFR 87.131 - Power and emissions.

"The maximum EIRP may not exceed 2000 watts per carrier."

;)

I believe the VHF rules state that you should use the minimum power possible. I bet someone would get upset if I was transmitting 1,000 miles! @farrelltravis must have more info on this. I believe the talks to people on the other side of the earth.

Your not playing.... I said if we could classify your boat as a carrier :)

Bruce you crack me up. That is a true statement though. It's easy talking to people on the other side of the world on ham radio. I always get a thrill out of that for some reason.

In regards to VHF marine radio and EIRP signals, I do not know all the rules. I know that the the general rules will always have a maximum signal power rule, but the standard go to response is always use the minimum power necessary.

Here is a map of Bimini Sands with condo locations and MMSI #'s as we currently know it. The Word document is also attached so you can print your own copy.

That is an awesome map! Great job!

My MMSI is 338238473

So I can see how these #s are perfect for emergency calling/distress issues, but are they useful for groups like ours going to bimini? @Bruce @Andy S ?

Not without fancy equipment that is uncommon on boats of our size.

Hey y'all, what's a good antenna to use with the GX1700 and best mount location on the 242x?
Prepping for Bimini 2018...
