I hear Iceland is nice this time of year. ;)

If I break-down in the Gulf Stream and start heading towards Iceland, please let it be On the way over to Bimini and not on the way back ...On the way over I will have a week or 2 supply of food on the boat ....On the way home from Bimini, I will only have 2 mountain dews in my cooler !

I had the same dilemma. I decided to buy the Inreach, so my family can track me and I can text back and forth if I need too. My wife also wants to share the link with some "friends".
The critical factor for me was: if something where to happen and I dont make it to Bimini, the last thing I want is my family to board the 3pm flight to Bimini while I am drifting towards Iceland.

Bit the bullet and got the inreach explorer. That stuff sure is expensive for one time use per year but does give peace of mind for my family.

Just remember to buy the case of Bimini Rum and you'll be all set! LOL

I don't know about you @chris24, but I carry 45 days worth of calories on my abdomen. My only concern is the water. But I figured the very first time it rains, I am turning off the bilge pumps.

One more never ending question guys... Do I purchase a Garmin InReahc explorer or just rent a EPIRB or PLB device ? If a PLB device do I need to get 1 for each of my family members? Thanks.

Don't think of it in terms of dollars, think of it in terms of % to the total cost. Every time I do that it makes me feel like it nothing.

PS. Consciously lying to myself, is the best thing that ever happened to me.

@Betik likely has the record for the most expensive Bimini trip and he is only staying 5 nights!

It brakes down as such: :rage:
  • boat purchase price +
  • $11,160 for towing and storing boat in our back yard
  • $3,658 for Bimini related upgrades and preparation
  • $9,486 in estimated cost for the entire trip Texas-Bimini-Texas
I think I definitely win this competition :banghead:

PS. For future Jetboaters who are thinking about making the 2018 trip and are reading this......Knowing what I know today, would I have done anything differently...?.. NOPE

I am right there with you @Betik !
new boat purchase
upgrades to said new boat
upgrades to the upgrades!
some new tackle.. well because it is a new boat!
Also traveling from Texas to Bimini and back again.

haven't even made the crossing yet but planning for 2018!

I already planned for 2018 (bimini), 2019 (bimini or exumas) and 2020 (exumas)...[flag]

What is your boat model? I can add it to the options in the Profile details so you can add it. Also- add your location!

Please don't mention Exuma. Issaac's video is the source all this trouble I am going through. LOL

Haha. Browsing by phone sux. I see I answered my own question now !

Hi everyone that I know and don't know ! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

Majorsmackdown from Washington state- furthest west participant that I know of and tied with @MrMoose for miles driven. (I'll still handily win towing miles this year).

Which sux in a lot of ways but I'm not complaining.

Amar-
I did the same last year.

As I am a frequent explorer (boats, jeep, travel,...) I've used the inReach a few times this year as a location & communication safety line.

You can turn on & off the service, month by month to save money. (I do)

Added Sea Hunt to the list.
bit off topic but can you add models like SX240...AR240 instead of SX 24 AR 24 see options for AR192 just saying :)

My 1st trip to Bimini on @upperdeck 's boat was enough for me to want more. Not so much pounding waves but the ADVENTURE of the trip as we trailer down from WI. The following year his boat was full. Soooo I just bought my own boat $$$. Big enough to comfortably make the crossing in moderate seas. Traveled to Fl on spring break to purchase $$. Went to Bimini that year and as the FRENCH tour guide at the SHARK LAB says was "oouked" (hooked). One the way home to (WISCONSIN) I flippantly said to my wife "we should just move to Florida". She agreed, 5 months later I found employment and 1 month after the whole family was here in Florida.
Spent alot of money due to that first trip to BIMINI...
:)
