Ski Locker Fireplace Mod........ It could happenI wouldn't put an in-floor firepit on my boat, but I'd sure love to have a friend who did, lol. We did get one of those little table top solo stoves for Christmas, and I'm hardpressed to find a reason why I shouldn't bring it on the boat and put it on the stern table - no more dangerous than the grill I put there (which routinely catches fire), and I could knock it right off into the drink if I had to.
That hurt my soul, has to be a new captain, that panic throttle is scary... I am surprised he didn't do it multiple times. Not what I saw in person, but saw watched this on YouTube during lunch. Fast forward to 25:00.
R.I.P fibergalss.....
How well does that thing work? Do you have to constantly feed it wood scraps?I wouldn't put an in-floor firepit on my boat, but I'd sure love to have a friend who did, lol. It is propane. How well does that thing work? Do you have to constantly feed it wood scraps?
Our sailboat has a non pressurized Alcohol stove /oven. The original Beneteau design (french) with a non sealed propane locker dumping possible leaks into the cabin, not overboard and valves hidden in lockers were ripped out. When they (PO) registered the boat with the USCG they needed to be in compliance.During a Coast Guard Auxiliary courtesy inspection, it was pointed out that propane is heavier than air and a venting propane container may dump propane into the bilge (that boat was equipped with an alcohol stove that never got used.).
Now I put green bottles in the anchor locker which has a low point drain.
I would surely never install one on my fiberglass decked Chaparral. I chose the in floor over the portable table tops because there is more benefit to the warmth aspect. I felt why heat at eye level when you should be heating from the floor level.I wouldn't put an in-floor firepit on my boat, but I'd sure love to have a friend who did, lol. Thats pretty darn cool man!Works quite well, throws off more heat than I expected - now we want to get a big one . We run ours on pellets, so just sprinkle some in here or there, just need to be careful not to smother.

Logical thinking…I’d imagine the insulated fish box would be good as well and it has a larger drain. But if the leak is great enough it will fill the anchor locker and then spill into the bilge as the anchor locker tub is not sealed at the top and is open.During a Coast Guard Auxiliary courtesy inspection, it was pointed out that propane is heavier than air and a venting propane container may dump propane into the bilge (that boat was equipped with an alcohol stove that never got used.).
