Not too mechanically inclined. Can someone show me where the starter and starter relay is on the TR1 Motor.

When I'm not sure where something is I'll look through the parts diagrams on sites like yamahasportsplaza.com.

around 19 minutes it shows you where the starter is located be sure the ground wire is clean and the starter can be jumped with some jumper cables to the battery before you go pull it out and find out it is something else keeping it from working.

My friend has a 2016 that won’t click or anything when the start button is pressed. Better is fully charged. Press start buttton and nothing happens. So we were thinking starter

I Doubt that is the issue perhaps a fuse or a wire connector or the solenoid so fist thing to do is get some jumper cables attach the negative to the ground terminal of the battery and the starter then attach the positive to the positive side of the battery and touch the wire on the starter with the red terminal and it should turn over if so start looking for a fuse or a ground wire or a kill switch issue.

Oh and if you accidently touched the wrong terminal of the battery with the wrong wire you may have blown the main fuse also the start button may need the wire connections cleaned or the ground wire is dirty but the starters seldom go bad,, now if the engine has been sitting a long time like over winter the pump may be locked up and refusing to turn due to dissimilar metal corrosion under the pump liner making it feel like the starter so turn the power take off vibration dampener located at the back of the engine and see if the engine will turn over by hand.

Okay the kill switch should be easy to take off and look at. What would you recommend I look at when I take it off? Then what step should I do after? He had issues for a while where it would just not start and then would start when it wanted too. He did get some salt water in the engine bay after he brought it in for repairs…they left a hose off and it filled with water

On my boat, if the clean out hatch is lifted the engines will not crank, and if running that kill switch back there will turn the motors off. This a common problem with people running along and hitting a wake and the engines die. The lanyard switch on my boat will only kill the engines, if pulled the engines will still crank but the engines will not start.

spray all the electrical connections with silicon spray to remove the water in the hull soak every part that has anything to do with electricity.

Okay we replaced the starter solenoid. And the engine will turn over and starter run when jumped with a screwdriver. So now we should look at the shut off switch or the starter button? or maybe a specific fuse issue. Because we get absolutely nothing when we put lanyward on and press start button. Any guidance would be appreciated.

check your main fuse if you crossed any terminal even for a second it will blow and your Engine will not start

I can just replace that fuse with a normal 4 point from an auto parts store? Or does it have to be a specific brand. I cracked it so going to have to replace it now anyways hahah

Alright replaced the fuse and did continuity testing on the left handlebar switches and all good. So I’m stumped now as what to look for

image.jpgAlso this step says the first post should have 12v. But it does not the lower one does. But on my functioning jet ski it’s the same way. And that one runs fine….
