The 242X was a sweet boat to ride on....and I'm glad I can now talk about it!!!!! WAS KILLING ME TO KEEP QUIET!!! No it is not just a color change....but I do love the blue boat! Lots of very cool features in the E-Series package!

So @Julian which boat are they rewarding you with for your unpaid marketing work and being able to keep a secret? Seems to me for all you've done free they saved a 6 figure salary. I'd say your efforts are worth at least $71999. No? They save money, and you stay brand loyal. Win win.

Great work here Julian. . . . . Very much appreciated.

That said, as nice as it is. . . . for $72K, I am VERY happy with the boat I have and the $46k I paid for it 2 short seasons ago.

I have 1500lbs of ballast (manually filled)
Solar Panel trickle charger
Wake/Surf Board Racks
Sea-Dek throughout

All for about $1700 . . . . .

(amongst other upgrades that are not necessarily applicable to compare)

While there are some VERY nice upgrades, that are obviously beneficial. . . . there is no way they are worth $24K (to me).

Thanks for your efforts @Julian. It appears Yamaha is getting away from the annual color change and making upgrades owners want. I was really impressed that they listened and addressed most of the issues in the 2105 24' models. Nice to see them take the next step. I like that they are continuing to offer the non -E-Series boats as well which will give owners some choices to make at different value points. I would love to see the throttle by wire in the non E-Series. That bimini in the E-Series is going to take some getting used to as well.

Just as a point of reference, I went over to the Chaparralboats.com website and did a quick build and price of a 243 VRX. I stuck with the twin 200s, added the tower, the medallion system (which appears to do everything the E-series drive-by-wire & connext do but also adds navigation), premium stereo, ballast, board racks, mirror and upgraded to aluminum trailer with aluminum wheels & spare. $67,954. Hmmm. Upping to twin 250s puts the price at $70,659.

I grant that the lack of cleanout ports may be a non-starter for some, but that is a pretty nice boat for less money than a comparably equippied Yamaha. I don't think I would have foreseen Chaparral as beating Yamaha on price!

The scarab 255 is right there too but you also get the led speakers, rear transom underwater led, and floor lights. Not to mention a real head if you so choose.

Couple of thoughts.
1) surprised Yamaha focused on the 240 series for the 2nd year in a row.
2) very surprised that the 212 series were completely blown off (other than BNG). I'm kind of ok with this - cause it means that my 212x didn't all of a sudden get antiquated. But very surprised.
3) the 242x is really nice - but the lack of a wake shaping device and surf tabs is disappointing. If you're gonna go play with the REAL wake boat inboards, and charge $72k, you'd better shape that wake properly.
4) $72k?? - that puts the Yamaha's up into a different territory. That's more than a 24' Moomba Mojo and priced right up there with a Cobalt, a Chapparal, a Bryant Calandra, so forth so on.
5) completely expected a 21' or 24' FHS.
I thought for sure this would be a definite.

That said - some really cool stuff. The electronic throttles are awesome. Upgraded sound systems and a tower light - FINALLY.

I loved driving the 242 e series. But I was disappointed that they didn't reduce the noise on the other boats. The new bimini tower setup was really nice too. I was surprised how sturdy it was.
