2018 Bimini June trip (June 24th - June 30th)

You are welcome. Some dive masters will actually ask you not to wear gloves while diving because the simple act of wearing the means people are more likely to touch the coral. I don't wear gloves diving or snorkelling because it makes it impossible to operate a camera...

I have no issues operating my cameras with gloves on. I wear gloves for safety reason and would recommend all do as well. Around the Sapona and plane wrecks I wouldn't snorkel with out them even though I have no intents of touching coral. Even around coral there could easily become a situation where you may have to push yourself or someone else off of coral and its better to be prepared then not. Last year in Abaco there was a incident where someone got into a panic situation snorkeling the barrier reef and it wound up with multiple people with cuts and wound as they tried to assist the paniced person gloves on the person in trouble and the rescuers would have saved some injury that's for sure.

Who is ready to cross today?

We all know that this water would be easy for @robert843. No worries at all!!!

You are correct my good sir because I would be watching those waters from the beach. ;)

Found this banana on the way to boat launch today !! Truck felt a bit laggy

I agree with you Robert, I’m a diver and gloves are a must around wreck dives....never know where there might be fishing line or other debris you might get into. I at least usually have my goves tucked in somewhere just in case.

Yup...gloves are perfect for climbing wrecks and diving in new wrecks. Old coral encrusted wrecks...same tendency begins to happen. Each to their own....I won't wear them snorkeling and encourage novices to never get close enough to touch coral especially if it is wavy. Many resorts are now posting that their reefs have fire coral (even though there is none) to keep people off.

Im at work today, bored beyond words. My internet access is limited though.
can anyone clarify a customs question please.... You can return to Bimini within 90 days of your visit to customs without having to pay again....is that correct?

I too am at work today and bored.

According to the Bahamas Customs, yes after the initial entry you can return 1 more time with 90 days.

https://www.bahamas.com/faq/entering-exiting-policies
3) Departure Tax for up to three (3) persons. Each additional person above three will be charged a $25 departure tax. This fee is good for a second re-entry within a 90-day period.

Thank you @Andy S I have some friends who are crossing for the first time soon and they were hearing conflicting info. I didn't realize it was only one time after though :(

I have no proof of this, but I bet a lot of folks from the east coast of Florida come over for the day without clearing customs. Also, in my 6 boat trips to the Bahamas, once I clear customs I have never again been asked for my passport or immigration papers.

I didn't clear customs my first trip.....
I haven't been asked for anything after the last few times I did.
but I do not have a name on my ski and on my papers I had her name as VXR and one of the customs agents asked if VXR was actually on my ski, which it was, but after last years crossing I stripped my graphics with plans of doing something different (which hasn't happened yet)
I wonder if I need to get some type of graphic with a name before I go though.....

Do you still have Yamaha anywhere on your ski? If so use that as your name, I know others but on boats that have done that.

I always did as @Andy S mentioned and named mine Kawasaki these should be something that says Yamaha somewhere on the ski even with no graphics. That is a first though I have never been asked if my ski said that somewhere on it that is interesting.

@robert843 I thought it was too when he specifically asked that. But he was kind of in shock that I was traveling on a ski...alone.
My graphics guy is only open during the week until 4:30. I would have to take some time off to have him do my ski. Ive put it on the back burner because I have some ugly scratches from the docks, some people I know have done the rhino line on it but Im not really digging the look of it. I wish sometimes someone else would make up my mind for me

Was that the que for @Girlfriend to decide ;) if not I'm sure @Betik will decide for you.

@Andy S, @Valerie, I have discussed clearing customs with a few of the condo owners. Their response has always been that if you get caught not clearing your vessel will be seized. Saying that I would not be surprised if the regulars only clear every three months.

On the other hand, a customs enployee lives at Bimini Sands.
