2020 Bimini Trip July 12-18th

I

wouldn’t wish that crossing on anyone. 2 to 3’ seas the whole way. Boat earned her wings for all the air time we logged. She really needs to work on those landings though

So glad I am here but the crossing...oh hell. I deserve some serious medal for that. If only I had a photo of us jumping one of the 6’ plus swells at 30 MPH. It felt epic. When we were getting gas next to Big Game club the attendant said surely we didn’t come today...LOL! There were guys in 35’ center consoles who cancelled their departures.
I looked at that forecast and I would have been hard pressed to cross when there had been over night sustained winds in the double digits! If we had crossed it would have taken 4.5 hours at 18mph max and we would have arrived on fumes at those displacement speeds. Not sure my spine would have thanked me either!!!

Great photos!!!! Keep them coming! And keep the info flowing....

This is one of the pizzas from the restaurant... Not sure if it's the poolside one or Petite Conch.
(copied from another Forum, posted from a Bimini Cove owner yesterday)
Thinking it's the poolside one...

Idk but I would do some strange things for some conch fritters right now ??. I swear I ate my weight in them last year in the keys, they are so good if made right!

@BBottoms @jethrof16 Are you guys planning to get out a day early before the weather comes in or you planning to try and rough it out on Saturday? They are calling for some crap conditions I'm debating on not crossing in my 30ft boat on Saturday right now.

I just pulled back into Harbour Towne trying to get ahead of the coming weather. The other two were still there and still planning to come back Saturday as of around lunch today.

Good conditions yesterday for a Sapona snorkel trip. Spent the rest of the day at the pool and made a quick trip down to the local market. We are all really enjoying this place.

That is an ugly forecast I'd not cross in.....but it doesn't let up all week! In general we try not to cross in double digit winds, especially if they've been double digits for a while.

The only plus side is its following seas. So go slow and you'll probably be ok. Of course, have the ditch bag, epirb life jackets etc all on and ready.

We looked at delaying a day or going Friday but those are the same

How was it today? Looked like lower wave heights and wind.

Forecasts for Saturday are all over the board NOAA down graded their forecast a little(They were calling for 3-5ft seas this morning for Saturday) and Passageweather and Sailflow upgraded theirs to worse conditions passage weather is predicting seas in the gulf of up to 6ft Saturday morning. I was supposed to go to Staniel Cay from Ft Lauderdale Saturday morning still not sure my full plan I may delay till Sunday or maybe just go to Bimini Saturday afternoon when it calms down a little and finish the trip Sunday when its a little better.

Also, always be prepared to change. Do NOT set yourself in stone to a plan. If you get out there and its bad, TURN BACK. Your life is more important than your schedule, job, plans etc!
