Maiden Voyage Failure 2021 252SD

Ya. My 252sd is in the shop and my dealer is telling me my steering needs recalibration because of weeds. I do remember my steering “moaning” a little while I was practicing docking with a friend of mine. No warnings tho.

It would be a great day on the lake today if I had a boat.

Do you now exactly what wire harness was loose. Have a 2021 212sd starboard throttle will not Engage. Only 1 hour on boat.
Yes, see post 19. Sorry you are having trouble!

Which models have the electric steering? Anything with paddles?
Do the ar's have it or is it options?

All models with a D in the model D=Drive system

I think the new E-Series boats have hydraulic steering too.
Nope....only if they have an D in the name. Now they have made it REALLY confusing by having "Drive Control" and "DRiVE", and I made my post above wrong (should have said DRiVE)

DRiVE=Power steering and paddle controls
Drive Control = power bucket controls as part of the E series package.

Ugh. This boat is a lemon. Back to the dealership I guess. They replaced the power steering unit and wiring harness a few weeks ago. Worked for a little while. Feeling like I should give up on Yamaha, but not sure what else I should get. I really like the boat when it works.

Just got this error on my 212SD. Resulted in me only being able to use no wake mode; no throttle, DRiVE or reverse. That factored in with some high winds made getting to the dock a bit interesting

Good grief Yamaha is trying to turn you off of boating. This is beyond stupid. WTF. Is your dealership considered a good one? Experienced techs?

What a bunch of over complicated bulshit. Just wait to these boats are 10 years old.

Wow. The amount of issues with new bots on this thread is crazy. If I was a potential customer and read this thread (like I did when I bought mine) I would never purchase a new Yamaha. My 2011 had zero issues for 10 years. Crazy.

I have said this before and its just a shot in the dark but has everyone checked the dealership didnt install crap batteries? They really need to be top notch for these newer boats . One guy with a 27 on here went through all these same connext errors and once he added a 3rd battery all the problems went away. 3 arent necessary. 2 are fine if they are good quality. Dealerships usually put the cheapest crap they can find in these boats. Im not saying the batteries are the issue but something worth looking into. I have northstar pros in my boat and all the shift/throttle and steering systems work flawlessly.

Usually just the paddle throttles are affected for me. Once I lost all steering and after regaining that it wouldn't go over 13 mph.

They just have the one guy and can't really say how good he is. They say they don't even have a service manual for these boats and these are all new issues. My dealership is a few minutes away from Yamaha HQ.

I'll mention that. I haven't looked to see what brand they are, but the service manager did say these boats are sensitive to voltage issues. I assumed the batteries would stay reasonably well charged with the solar panel.

That’s funny, because I asked my dealer if he could download a copy of the service manual for my boat so I could st least get the torque specs. He replied “ we don’t have it”. Which I replied, “ how do you work on these new boats without a service manual?” In the automotive world, specialty tools and service manuals are shipped to the dealer in advance of new model year releases.

Even in the automotive world, CAN comms are very low voltage sensitive. This causes glitches in the processing of information by the control modules that are communicating and sharing information with one another. (RPM, Speed, Temp, Gear etc) I.E. If one or two module receive a signal and the 3rd gets it late or not at all, it can set a fault. My guess is that most of these problems are Comm faults, and not issues with hardware. These can usually be fixed with software updates that loosen the parameters that set a fault. These systems go into limp mode, or shutdown because they are missing critical information. I’m speaking from automotive experience and just speculating.
