I purchased a stock 212x boat and decided to keep track of all the cool things I have seen people do to their boats and trailers. This upgrade/mod list is relatively complete for my boat. There are always new things out there though, so I welcome all suggestions. All of the items aren't necessarily going to make it onto my boat or trailer but I thought I would keep them for completeness. They are listed in a general order of priority and "x'd" when completed. Hopefully this makes for a concise list that people can quickly review. As more content to this site is added I will put in as many hotlinks as I can. Nice list! Do you guys have a brass transom drain plug on that year/model boat? I didn't like having to deal with a wrench, so I drilled an 1/8" hole across the square nut end of the drain plug and tapped in an 1/8" x 2" length of stainless steel welding rod. It gave me the ability to install the plug securely but able to remove it with my fingers without a wrench!

If I suspect the plastic plug is leaking then I may go ahead with the change.

I like knowing that if I lose a plug I have about ten spares in the boat already.

Funny thing about our boat when we bought it (used) it was missing a few plugs in the engine compartment. I just assumed that the previous owner ran with them out, but I never found them in the glove box or storage. It got me thinking later that maybe they lost a few from the stern/main drain and grabbed them as a spare.

Adding my Lowrance Elite 5 DSI install. Essentially moved it over here from the other site.

Basically used some extra Ultimate Bunk Board to make the puck used to mount the RAM. I installed a lowrance Elite 5 sounder and the darn plug on the thing is an inch wide. I cut the old line and duct taped the new to old. Lined everything up and made it through the wire loom in the engine bay no prob, but just in the fuel tank compartment it was getting hung up. After several trys I punted and started taking out the bolts on the fuel hatch, 13 total.
While you have the fuel cover open, make sure you check that your fuel vent hose is snug. Some have reported that it is loose and prone to come off.
I snapped one bolt and had to drill the heads off two others to get the fuel cover up. What I found is that there are two lines going into the fuel tank that my sounder line was getting hung up on. I don't think I would have gotten lucky and gotten it past them. With the fuel tank cover up it was a easy getting the line up to the next challenging part and that is the couple of feet from the top of the front of the fuel tank area to under the dash. It is a blind area with no access. I was able to get the line through on the third try. I reinstalled the fuel cover with the rest of the remaining bolts and it seems snug so I'll wait until the fall to either drill out the bolts or give it to my mechanic or dealer to do. It's not going to be a fun job since those bolts are over 2 inches long

Once I got the cable run through I opened up the dash and used pool noodles to hold the dash up. I added a 3A fuse as the manual suggests and connected up to the power connectors from the old Norcross unit. From there I used an extra UBB board to create a mounting puck to secure the ram mount. I used a 2" hole saw to cut it. After securing the RAM mount to the puck I powered it on and it worked flawlessly. The pictures in my first post will hopefully help the most.

Edit: adding my review of it after a year and a half of use
Pros and cons of my install
Pros:
Works at any speed! including reverse (this is due to my install location)
Has water temp, depth, and speed all in an easy to read location
Mapping of the bottom is very detailed
Charterplotter with bread crums seems to work well but I haven't used it extensively due to the complexity of some of the menus.
Easy to disconnect and reconnect.
I added a nice cover that fits snugly to protect it.

Cons:
GPS link up is very slow. I think it is on the order of minutes vs seconds like the Perfect Pass is.
Bezel/non-screen area is large compared to screen and buttons. Lots of wasted space in other words.
Using more than the basic features requires some manual memorization as it's not super intuitive. I don't fish much and am very rarely on unfamiliar waters which has delayed my need to learn the fancy stuff this thing can do.
