Ok, I know I'm going to get a ton of opinions on this but what the hell.

Was out for 2nd day this week and had to stop at the marine for treats for the kids and decided to add a little gas. Current tank had non-ethanol gas from the winter storage and everything was running fine. Just want to add a little more since I ran about 20gal's out the day before doing a shake-down run.

Well, the gas at the marine is $3.99gal 90oct/non-ethanol ! Sweet baby Jesus!

I have run regular gas in it many many times before. Since I trailer to the lake I'm not locked into a marine and their gas prices. I'll stop and get gas wherever.

Now, my 2014 242LS manual says min oct is 86. Just regular gas and I've never had any issues while running it. Never store with non-ethanol but summer use hell yes esp when its $2.70-vs-$3.99 a gallon. I do add ethanol treatment to it but that's it.

What are y'alls thoughts?

Side note: opinions on the Yamaha Ring Free fuel additive vs other ethanol treatments.

Thanks everyone

I can get 87 ethanol-free around town. I pretty much always run Seafoam, so nothing else until winter time when I’ll throw some stabil in when I top the tank. The older the boat the more passionate I feel about not running ethanol...even though they were “designed to”.

87 octane w/ethanol straight from the gas station pump. No additives & no issues in any of my boats. The only time I add anything to the gas is before winter storage I’ll use either Sta-bil or Seafoam.
Edit: cheapest gas I can find is what I run

Thats what I figured guys...Thanks.

I've been doing that mostly the same too...with the occasional marine fill up when on vacation with the boat or just adding a little to keep the day going.

Cheers Y'all!

87 octane with Stabil 360 for years... no issues!

100% the same here. Cheapest gas I can find along the route to the ramp. Try to tow with less fuel than more, but will often fill up on the way out of town (have to get ice and road snacks anyway usually).

Typically 87 Octane E10.

When I'm putting it away for the winter I make a special trip across town with the boat to get ethanol free fuel (called "rec gas" locally). It's died red I think, and is NOT for road use. Has no ethanol, and no road tax applied to it. I'll run this for the last tank, then refill with Stabil treatment for the winter.

I run no ethanol in mine. It's mostly 91 around here. It cost more, but I've never had a fuel related issue in any of my non-vehicle equipment since. If I was down south and ran through at least a tank a month, I'd probably run whatever is cheaper. But I'm not, so I don't chance it. My small engine guy (who I don't need to use anymore since running non-oxy) had two mason jars on his counter. one with oxy, the other non oxy, the oxy one took about a month to start to discolor, the non-oxy one was sitting there over 6 months and still crystal clear. Oxy also attracts water.

I always get 87 with ethanol in town. I always add either stabil marine or the Yamaha engine med but mine sits a while between uses.

My boat stays on the lake but have many times taken regular 87 pump gas to boat, or when I've been trailering it with no issues.
My rule of thumb has always been if your going to burn it all up it's not going to hurt anything. Ethanol and time is where you'll have the issues.

I'll add additives at the end of the season even if I've run the gas out and non ethanol from lake gas pumps just for the piece of mind.

Is the gas at marinas always non ethanol? I’ve never filled my boat at the lake.

The manual calls for 86 octane in my boat...and at 5000’ of elevation I could run straight 85, but I drop down to lower elevations now and again.

I mix 85 non ethanol and 91 non ethanol in the correct ratio to get 86. I also run Amsoil upper cylinder lubricant in each fill up. I put the Amsoil storage treatment in before the last outing and take the boat out before winter storage.

I’ll run a tank full of Techron or the Amsoil equivalent when I make some longer runs this summer.

Here’s a calculator for mixing the gas in the correct ratio’s.

Same for me. Cheapest 87 I can find. No issues.

I run 87 Octane and Stabil in every tank. Runs great. I am always full before I hit the water. I try not to get the high priced on the water gas.

I tried to keep it ethanol free, but after 1 fill-up its just too much hassle, pump always have lines so screw it, I now use 87 which is convenient, I can go to any gas station before launching. I use bottle of seafoam marine every other fill up.

So I've only fueled up twice, and I use 89 w/E10. I also add Yamaha Fuel Red, and will be adding Ring Free on the next fill-up. I know it may be overkill, but I want stable fuel and clean injectors. 89 in CA is $4.29 right now, Shell/Chevron is higher. Commie Bastards.

I always use whatever the manufacturer says to use, and Yamaha says 86 minimum, so 87 with ethanol is our only choice up here and that's what I use. Previous boats also ran 86 minimum and never had a problem with pump 87. Stabilizer for winter storage and that's it. If I left it sitting idle for long periods during the nice weather, I'd add stabilizer more often, otherwise it's a waste and not needed.

If you're using just one bottle in your boat with a tank fill, you're wasting your money as the ratio will be too low to do anything. I believe it's one bottle per 15 gallons?
