I remember my mom (an RN) always breaking out the hydrogen peroxide. I don’t recall if it hurt when it was applied to a fresh wound but do recall that I didn’t like the way it fizzed/bubbled when applied.Mercurochrome was a piece of cake...Merthiolate was the one that burned like hell. I remember!
