Had to replace my 7yr old mower battery today. I’ve had really good luck with these batteries lasting 7-10 years in tractors, skid steer & vehicles.

Recently picked up a mower for a steal of a deal because of a bad battery. My plan was to pick one of those up on the drive down to pick it up, but they were out of stock. Had to stop at Wally World. Saved me a few bucks, but I'd rather have one of theirs. Planning on adding a tender to the cheapo I threw on there, I don't have much faith that it'll last without topping it off. Sucks that I had to get a new battery right before winter, but my body was arguing with me the whole time with the battery, so I wasn't going to loosen the valves and deal with a runaway mower.

Goodbye century link and your crappy 25 mbs down and 2-3 mbs up…

I should have added, the crappy century link has been the only option for where I live. I should probably use the F word as much as I use the word hate and I rarely use the word hate, but I will tell you that I fucking hate cable companies, with a religious fervor. Case in point with Century Link, three years ago I called them and they sent out a tech who determined that the cable between the junction box in my house which is a couple hundred feet away needed to be replaced, and the tech said he had written it up for Century Link to replace this cable. This cable is old telephone direct burial cable and it had been damaged not only from the 50 years it’s been in the ground but also from lightning strikes. Fast forward three years the cable still had not been replaced so I called and they sent out another tech and this tech told me that even though Century Link owns the cable they would not replace it because it was too much money. So Century Link was happy to let me keep on paying for 30 megabytes a second when it’s supposed to deliver 60. Rat bastards.

On my hunting trip this year my friend brought a residential Star Link for all of us to use instead of the AT&T hot spot. It was impressive ! Super easy to set up on the roof of my RV. My friend used the app on his phone to tell me how to adjust the transceiver plate, then I duct taped it to the garage AC on my trailer.

We got about 20” of snow on the last evening of the hunting days, as you might be able to see in the pic below the transceiver plate has a built in heater to keep it free from snow. I removed the snow on the roof since I use a Wave 8 ceramic wool propane heater at night and wanted to make sure the vents were clear, you can see that the area around the vent is clear due to the warm air flowing out of it at night, I was concerned the snow would bridge over the vent.

So after I got home and settled I went to Best Buy and bought a kit after using the free Star Link app to determine if the sky was unobstructed enough to use it at my place since there are trees all around.

I’m using the old TV antenna pole to hold the Star Link plate. Sorry don’t have a pic of the plate installed on the pole.

Fiber optic is being installed along the highway near my house but at the rate that work has been proceeding it’s going to be a while before that is up and running. Verizon is going to be putting up a tower not very far and in line of sight of my house, who knows when that will be completed.

I’m so stoked to finally have decent internet at my house in the hills! I’ll be able to connect my Verizon net work extender into the Star Link router and have great cell speed as well now. This solves two of the three things that were not super dyno megabitchen about my place.

Man, I'm with ya!!! We have been forced to use CenturyLink, aka Charter, aka Spectrum, since 1999. No other option was available. Recently though a company came through and buried fiber optic in my hood. Then I started seeing the install trucks everywhere and started getting the post cards. PavLov Media is the company and they advertise 1 GB download speed for $69/month. I had them out 2 days ago to get it installed. They tech looked at the house, crawled around the attic and garage and basically said it would be too much of a pain in the ass to get the fiber optic in the house. So I'm stuck with Spectrum.

Honestly though I really only hate Spectrum because of their shitty billing and website portal to pay the bill. I run a speed test occasionally and I'm getting around 225 MB/s download speed. I pay for up to 400. I read online that unless you're doing heavy online player v player gaming or something the average household really only needs 100 MB/s.

So I guess I'm just going to carry on.

You might want to get one of their techs to come out and verify that you’re not getting the full 400 MB a second down and they should give you a discount for not getting the full speed. I know some friends of mine in town who have I can’t remember the name of the cable company at this moment gave them a discount because they’re not getting the 400 they were promised.

When you call Century Link customer service which is a joke it should be more like customer aggravation it is almost impossible to get through to a person. Many times when using their Caltry the voice will just say we’re done and hang up very frustrating. As in typical cable company fashion my rates have continued decline ever since I first got service this is extremely frustrating in light of the declining actual service that I got at my house. Had the same problem when I lived in Southern California, which is what led me to get DIRECTV back when you had to buy the equipment from either Best Buy or the good guys or something.

Unfortunately we do not have fiber optics in our area

This. This right here. They effed with how it's dealing with my bank, and I'm now forced to either give them credit card info, or remember every month to schedule a check. I'm friends with the IT guy at my bank, been golfing in leagues with him for quite a while, and I've had him walk me right through what the issue is on SPECTRUM'S end. Call them with the issue and info, and I get the runaround, and in the end, they end up blaming my bank - nevermind what my own lyin' eyes have seen.

The lake house only has CenturyLink available in the area. We don't use it, but the year-rounders who work out there have all dropped CenturyLink once word got out about Starlink. Realtor friend said it would often take her 3-4 HOURS to have to deal with contracts before Starlink, now, the speed is so much better than CenturyLink that they can now stay out there during the summer and work from there instead of having to head home simply due to internet speeds.

Hate isn't a strong enough word for Spectrum and any internet provider. I've dealt with 5 different company names, and they're all identical in the shitty customer service they provide, and the only time any of them ever gave a damn about me as a customer is when I was dropping them to move to a different provider. Eff 'em all.

Just ran another speed test after reading @drewkaree ‘s post. That’s 9.12 times faster down and 12.09 times faster up than Century link.

One thing I learned how to do is get around century links really messed up call tree that is designed to keep one from talking to a person. Basically, choose an option where you want to sign up for more “service” (that puts throw up taste in my mouth) and you’ll get a person.

Throughout history, societies, cultures and companies who fail to adapt to their changing environments have gone extinct, from the Sumerians to Saturn (cars if anyone remembers them now). I will watch gleefully as bad cable companies dry up and blow away in the breeze just like a pile of dog shit….
