We made the decision to add a white horse to the team. I pulled the plugs on the bad motor and looked inside the cylinder with a bore scope. Cylinder walls looked good, crown of the piston has some damage. I could see one valve, but not the other, that was inconclusive. I will tear it down and rebuild it to use as a spare motor.
Summer up here near the 45 parallel is a waistin. We chomped on the bit and ordered a new motor so we can have the ability to maneuver in tight spaces.

There were none, we could find, ready to ship in Yamaha grey. So we decided to pay $300 more for a white motor. So yeah, we have a mismatched set now, but will not be noticed unless you look under the boat. Ships today via freight from California, be here in a week. Meanwhile, I will start opening up the bad motor to see what happened. Looking at parts online and maybe a couple hundred dollars to fix.
We have an appointment on Monday to restep the mast, gotta remember to put the coin back in its place. So we should be rigged for sailing again. We will wait in our slip for the motor to arrive.
Meanwhile there is plenty to do, as the new toilet arrived yesterday. The new sheaves for halyards in the mast base are here and the windex is ready to mount. I also need to mount cheek blocks 30’ up from the base for a lazy jack system and sailpack.
Plenty to do, focusing on getting the mast ready for stepping.
