Always admired these from afar. Now I have them. Birds of Paradise.

Got my email from Yamaha. Wonder what "big" things are coming? Last year just seemed to be a color change for my model.

@Julian @OperationROL Did you film the review in Florida? Did you get invited by Yamaha or did you have to invite yourself? You guys did a great job.

Follow up to the Kayak post earlier in this thread.

11yr old thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread!

Also......he can fit through the laundry chute in the new camper......Guess who drove all the way there and left the keys at home. Kid saved us ~2hrs of driving by being skinny!

New video by Mike Dobrick <--Click to see video

4yr old was just excited to be on the boat in general. Squirt gun and all!

Finally.....Took a selfie with the wife at the local outdoor/roadside restaurant. Little crop and blur action and it's actually not a terribly bad shot!

We went out yesterday, 3rd time in 4 days. We went out for a sail in 10-13 knots. Full sail. I always let my wife handle the mainsheet, the line that adjusts the mainsail's angle in relation to the wind. She does not like the boat healed more than 15°, so she will let the sheet out to dump wind and keep the boat flat. That letting out of the mainsheet will backwind the mainsail with the wind coming off the headsail, genoa. You might catch this in the video, but the wife was happy where she was at 20° heel and 6.5kts SOG on a close haul into a 10.7 kt wind. The hull speed for this displacement vessel is 7.26 kts, https://www.boat-specs.com/sailing/sailboats/beneteau/first-35s5-lead-keel, well we approached it yesterday as she held on to 7.1kts for a time, the fastest we have been on any point of sail with this boat. I had a blast hauling ass.

We sailed to the mouth of Willsboro bay aka Indian bay but we were short on time to explore the rest of the bay. And we found the wind had died over there, so we went back out to catch a 6.8 kt beam reach most of the way back. That was a lot of fun as we hooked up with the wind and kept the heel down.

Awesome! Sounds like you found the perfect trim with close to max hull speed and comfortable sailing. The deckhand on the main sheet deserves 2 servings of Rum!

Went for a ride last night at a single-track park I had never been to, only to find out it goes around a small lake with slalom ski courses and a couple ski jumps. Fun to watch them do both while I biked around.

I'm only 35, but I look at that as:
1. Potential Broken Bones
2. Whats the hospital bill going to cost
3. How long will I be out of work

The 18yr old me would have said:
1. You have to ask if I want to try this
2. How do I sign up
3. Gives me a reason to get out of work

The 58 year old me is wondering if my repaired meniscus is healed enough after two months of recovery to risk buying a wakeboard before the season is over, or waiting till spring to try that new hobby.
