As long as you have the broken parts that Yamaha will replace under warranty (at that point they own the broken parts) you should be fine getting yamaha to reimburse you.

i agree with ronnie. shouldnt be a big deal if your dealer is decent and good to work with. i dont think there is anything to worry about boat wise. the 275 series has the 160mm pump which has been around for years in the waverunners. same goes for the svho. both engine, pump and driveline have been proven to be very reliable overall. good thing is that its all very simple, easy to fix and parts arent too terribly expensive. i guess i just know those systems well from building my fzs. its the electro hydraulic systems for steering, shift and throttle that i could see getting expensive to fix and hard to troubleshoot. hopefully that stuff is reliable.

@BGN123 this is the first I've seen a shaft shear like that. Yamaha should cover it no issues. Really strange! Must have been a bad shaft with some strange flaw in it. I honestly can't recall a shaft ever breaking like that in the 15 years on these forums. Glad its fixed..... boat on!

Boat is fixed and back at the marina. Easy peasey. Now trying to submit repair bill and see what happens. Hopefully Yamaha covers if not I understand because Indidnt follow their advice but was not willing to kiss my boat goodbye for an indefinite period of time. But if they don’t it’s a good warning about this model boat right?
Crazy!
Very strange, never heard of it in these boats before reading your thread.

Glad you got this done the way you did. Will they pay? is anyone's guess but for me it would be the least of my worries at that point, if the boat runs like it did before the event w/ no other issues I would think I dodged a bullet, could have been a lot more damage, not to mention having something like that happen while running off shore etc.

No, it’s not a warning about this model.

I agree. This pump and shaft is very similar across the models. If that shaft had an ongoing construction flaw, we would have seen lots of boats with broken shafts. We have not. This was a freak bad shaft.....yes that sucks....and Yamaha should stand behind that.

(We have actually had one other shaft break like this on the board. Still, 2 instances on 2 different models is very far from a systemic problem.)

Probably true, will have to watch out for more reports though as more 275s see the water. It's a proven combo in a ski and a light boat, but maybe more demanding when it's sitting in a 27' boat. My money's on a freak failure, but who knows.

Oddly it was common with wave runners after the impeller was changed but when you see how the people removed the impeller you can understand the shaft cracking and then breaking and the fractures showed gradual changes in the corrosion levels indicating it first had a small crack and it continued until the shaft gave way.

10 years ago....like I said...rare as hell....and let's hope it stays that way!

And I was an admin then on that site.....so now you are just making me feel old too! Lol
I think us well read wise guys need to face the fact that most of us are old. The definition doesn’t change just because we reached it.

My mind tells me that 51 is the new 15, unfortunately my body consistently reminds me that it is better at math.

I am pretty sure the shaft is different in SVHOs, no? the pump is, it's bigger.

Sure, those things work well in SC skis and in 192/195s. But those bigger boats may load the pumps different, the pumps are bigger, and the stress may or may not be comparable to the same (EDITED OUT - 155mm) 160mm pump mounted in singles. At least in my limited experience, single engine yammies tend to cavitate/slip the impeller a lot more than twins, and that is essentially akin to using a wet clutch.

Worst case, Yamaha just identified another weak link in the system, like the older timing chains in SC skis. Hope not.

EDIT: I meant to say 160mm - as in SHO/SVHO drivetrain.

The pump in my boat is the 160mm pump. Same one as my 2016 fzs. Really those pimps have been bulletproof. I am throwing about 450hp to the one in my ski too which is very common for anyone doing performance mods to their waverunners. There are many guys running even higher and never an issue with the pump or shafths

Yup, they are slightly different between HO/SVHO models. The shaft is also different between the 275 and the 240's.

I mean to say 160mm, thank you.

I hope this is a fluke. Or - may be @BGN123 just needs to stop jumping those waves, 275 is not a jet ski, lolol.
