NEW MODEL INFO 2023 Yamaha 222 FSH Sport E Walkthrough by Neil and Julian

50 gallons was a small tank for the previous models. My thought is that the higher freeboard, the larger tanks, and some of the other changes makes this a much better boat and makes is competitive with many of its competitors.

Quite honestly, the AR220/220 FSH wasn't on my short list, last month, for a new boat. I do, however, like the changes and these two boats are now on my short list!

Jim

I’ll be ordering a 222 FSH Sport. Love our 21 195 FSH Sport, but model really checks all the boxes for us. with the increased prices of the FSH 195 Sport, we should do ok when we sell ours.

@FSH 210 Sport below is the best image I had of the dash.....looks like there is just one switch for the aerator:

I have sent a few questions into our Yamaha contact that have come up in this thread. I'll post them here when I get the answers. For example, what will the final boat have in the starboard storage?

Interesting they went with Hertz for the stereo. They are really new to the market.

Awesome! Thanks Julian!

The helm looks a fair bit taller than my 210…. Not surprising I suppose since Neil @OperationROL said the head compartment and door / hatch was the same as on the 252/255…

Also looks like the raw water wash down is an electric pump now judging the ckt breaker next to the rocker switch that is above the no wake / cruise assist switch

Finally found the video of the dash....was in the wrong folder! D'oh.
Left switch is Nav/Anchor lights.

@Julian What did you think about the noise level? Have they done anything to make it more quiet? Are the motors louder since you sit over them rather than in front of them on the 252/255?

The tech specs show that the sport E has Yamaha Drive Technology. Is that the paddle system like in the 27s or something different?
Thanks!

The E drive is not the paddle system, that is the DriVe system. The E drive is only electronically controlled throttles (fly by wire) with single throttle control and engine synching, also electrically controlled shift gates, and push button start and stop buttons.

Noise level is the #1 question the wife just had about it also. But she loves every change, so maybe the 222 is closer to reality than I originally thought, lol.

These jet boats are not going to be as quiet as an outboard, that’s just the way it is.

From my experimentation with different impellers, I can tell you that the skat trak impellers cut the perceived noise by half, sadly ended up having to use the Solas at least for the foreseeable future. I was using a db meter app on my phone to confirm this.. 3 DB is a perceived doubling or halving of a give noise level, the skat traks were 3 DB’s lower in noise than either the Solas or OEM impellers.

Also, my take is that a lot of the noise I get on my boat is wind noise. Is there engine noise? Yes of course, but the wind noise is what you have to raise your voice over.

When I did some long runs last summer at Lake Powell ( 1.5-2 hours) I used the original EAR foam ear plugs, they are super cheap, and easy to use and keep handy, they cut the noise by 29 DB’s. They are easy for me to use as I have been using them for most of my life, if it wasn’t for work then when I’m riding my dirt bike. To me, the benefits of the jet drive and the Yamaha boat design far out weigh the increase in noise over an outboard / I/O drive boat.

Here is boat tests data on the 255 FSH Sport E, best cruise speed at 27 mph=89 DB’s and 66.8 DB’s at 1200 rpm.

Here are some other cc’s with single outboards for comparison: If you compare all these cc outboard boats at the same rpm / speed level to the Yamaha, the Yamaha is only slightly louder In most cases. If a person was riding on the cc console seat of the Yamaha, the majority of noise is gong to be coming from the wind. Is the Yamaha louder? Yes, ,but not by much.

I thought the noise level was a little quieter than my boat. They've been focusing on ways to ensure the engine hatch seals better, and sound deadening material.

The E-Series also comes with GPS controlled speed control and I assume (didn't verify) preset launch controls - meaning you set the speed before moving, push the throttles forward, and the boat accelerates on a preset acceleration curve (slow/med/fast) to the preset speed. (our boat wasn't a "finished" boat yet, so this wasn't available).

Oh I fully realize that, she’s just wondering if they were able to quiet it down *at all*. That would be another huge selling point.
It’s also the actual tone of the Yamaha that’s part of the issue. It’s higher pitch which is perceived as louder.

Copy that! Everyone has certain sounds that bothers them more… the ear plugs are the easiest cure… cheaper and much easier to install!

And you can take one and cut it in half and use the two halves instead of two full ones and it knocks the noise level way down.

I used to always wear them when I was working, a pipe welder at the time and when going to concerts, I used two halves at concerts, my friends all used to make fun of me until we saw Ted Nugent at the Santa Monica civic center, and a new unheard of band opened for us in the first row.. Guns and Roses and it got louder from that point on. When it was over my friends were like ”oh my ears are so messed up!”, as I tossed my two ear plugs into the trash I said, really? I didn’t miss a note all night long.

There is a guy on the Yamaha 252 and 255 FSH Facebook page that ordered a '23 255 on Monday and it arrived at the dealership today. I guess they have been working ahead this year! I placed an order for a 222 Sport E on Monday. Kind of crazy that they could be coming at any time.

I'd be curious to see a photo of the VIN. Not sure official 2023 models are being made yet.

I didn't think of that! Guess my Yamaha contact was just being conservative on the dates for availability of 2023s.
I'm thinking the same thing. I was told to expect December. What did they tell you?

Any idea if that fiberglass t-top will fit on a 2022 210FSH? It’s a hard sell to the wife to buy a new boat just for the T top…

This top is a lot bigger than the one on the 210. It's the same as the 255. Cycle springs in Tampa used to make a hard top for the 210. You might want to check with them if you just want the top.
