Saw that…. The info was passed on to the USCG incident commander. From what I know of the SOSIS net, it is HIGHLY accurate in placing a sound within a three dimensional space. I guess they operation didn’t have the deep ROV’s to exploit that info until Thursday though.

Amazing how the Titanic caused the implementation of the now “maritime safety regulations”, and now so many years later, the regulations will most likely be reviewed for submersibles (as the times change) to prevent yet another maritime disaster. At least it’s a learning curve and can hopefully prevent further loss of life. I am a maritime history nerd and had the opportunity to visit the Maritime Museum in Liverpool a few years back when work sent me to the UK for a couple weeks. I was able to catch the Titanic exhibit while I was there.

I'm wondering if the viewing window is still intact in the dome.

They didn't say, but they indicated that the carbon fiber cylinder was what failed....which concurs with what their engineers were worried about....the constant flexing of the carbon fibers under enormous pressures and low temperatures involved hadn't been tested enough.

they found the front (viewing window) and rear cap detached, I believe when main cabin imploded both were ejected intact.

From all the Titanic talk resurfacing, I read that there is a theory that it's not actually the Titanic at the bottom of the ocean it is really the Olympic that was swapped in by White Star Line. All these years and this is the first I've heard that.

I have also heard it was an inside job by JP Morgan.

This was only the third trip for that sub…. And the first of this season. he also acknowledged that carbon fiber and titanium should not be used on deep submersibles… again, the pressure is very hard to wrap your head around.

I should invent a conspiracy theory....those quacks get a shit ton of views! Good business to be in!
The problem is half of them turn out to be true.
