I think most drunk people are gross, and I grew up around a few alcoholics, and had to work with quite a few, can’t stand alkies or addicts in general and their bullshit.

And good for your wife to have not done drugs or smoked cigarettes!

I have experienced similar distancing from work colleagues when they found out that I was good with a sprite at a bar and didnt want to drink. They got offended when they were on their third Manhattan and I asked aren’t you worried about getting a $50K dui and losing your job?

about 15 years ago I helped a guy import a 2004 GT from Canada, I think it was in the 60-80k range, when it was all over he was very appreciative and offered me a bottle or liquor as a thank you, I said "no thank you because I don't drink but I would really appreciate a ride just down the highway and back for 15 minutes one day when you have time" he agreed and I never heard from him again

I also helped import a older Vincent race car from England, most people know Vincent as the motorcycle but they used their engines in many applications, the buyer also bought a vincent powered air compressor,

this was a little more fun as we unloaded the container at our dock and I at least got to sit inside it

Reminds me of the GT40 that I saw at the afore dealership in June 2018. Again it belonged to the dealership’s owner. He was just show off sharing as it wasn’t for sale and someone came on and made an offer of $350k when I was there. The employees didn’t even relay to offer to the owner. They had been instructed to reject all offers not sure of this only applied to offers than than $X dollars.

Anything that pops up on the New Jersey peaks my interest as my grandfather was on it during Korea. Isn’t something I have seen in person yet, but nice that he explains some items have been changed over the years from time of build to time of decommission. Uhhhh, I don’t think so. The USS Enterprise with 8 Westinghouse Nuclear Reactors could do more than double that speed. Perhaps triple that speed. And run for 20 years before needing new fuel.

As I said in my post, “of their time” and “of the day”…at the time the keel was laid on the Iowa some of the first experiments had just been completed at I think University of Chicago on splitting the atom, so nuclear propulsion for ships was some 20+ years in the future. The 8 Babcock & Wilcox boilers and GE steam turbines on the Iowa class ships were the pinnacle of steam propulsion in that day, producing over 70,000 shaft horsepower on each of her four screws. Published top speed of the Iowa class battle ships was 38 knots, with 38.7 knots on the Enterprise, but the classified speed of the Enterprise was much higher. I’m not sure about the Enterprise class, but the Nimitz class top speed is rumored to be upwards of 70 knots.

No issues with 13 for us...previously built and lived at 13 Hobbs and now 313 at the farm. I know!..but we are 45 mins South of the border, lol.

When your wife takes your car so she doesn’t have to move it to get to hers… she comes home last night and says you probably need to stop and get gas in your car on your way home from work tomorrow. This is what I see this morning. My house to work is 15 miles. I have 9 miles range per the car. I’m no mathematician but ?….

This is my car at the stop light 1 mile from the gas station.. Honda must have a buffer that allows for situations like this. You ever get that Oh shit, I’m about to be pulling over and you start looking for the quickest exit strategy from the road.. that was me this morning. But her car had gas in it when I moved it this morning. Thankfully I made it to the gas station.

Reminds me of my Son’s first college roommate. His parents bought him a $30k truck to take to school. A week in he asked my son how to put gas in it. 18 years old and he never pumped gas in his life.

on a boating related note, the last time I took the Waverunners out on a long cruise both showed that the tanks had less than 10% fuel remaining, the light was blinking and there was an audible alarm. We went straight back to the ramp. I pulled the seats off and saw that both ended up having a quarter tank (about four gallons) left in them. WTF?

Did a good deed today. Got a call for a pressure washing job on a small mobile home. Show up, single lady, retired, never married, no kids and fixed income. Usually this would be a $200 job all day, about 2 hours worth of work. Was feeling generous and donated my time and told her to pay it forward. Back side of the trailer was green! Keep in mind this is some old siding that is stained pretty bad. Now if we can just teach the next generation to do the same!
