That only worked for the day time running light (drl) / signal light behind the clear lense, not the side marker/parking light under the Amber lense. I could not get my hand / forearm that far back through the brake cooling opening in the bumper. Believe me, I tried, hard.

Yep, I misread that! I was thinking blinker/drl

Temperatures are warming and sap is flowing. Better get the sap releaser and pump installed. Connected sap and vacuum lines.20180224_111616.jpgThis tool pulls the tubing onto the fittings.20180224_112432.jpgAnd then place the pump and plumbing.20180224_114936.jpgConnected electrical and got it pumping, collected 200 gals. from gravity, no vacuum, connecting that tomorrow. This recieves the sap from the 900 taps I added this year. Total now 5600 taps.

@swatski What was it like, going with all the women in your family? Knowing you were going to see a concert and be in the same building with the guy who beat you for the title of " Sexiest Man Alive? ";) Sorry I had to.

Saw the “Museum Of Ice Cream” show in SF. Interesting.

Nice. I (from California) met my wife (from Texas) in Israel about 20 years ago. We went back a few times but haven't been in a while. Looks like Masada hasn't changed haha.

Who ever said "Money does not grow on/in trees" was not in the modern maple industry. Woke up to this, this morning.

One full 4000 gallon tank full and overflowing. But that is ok, it is flowing into the overflow tank next to it.

Thru the overflow pipe that connects the two tanks.

Love it, when I can make $$ while sleeping. Wish sap ran year round.;)

@zipper , I’ve never seen anything like this, is unprocessed sap green or does it just look that way in your pic? When I think of raw sap I think of the yellow/rubber cement like gel that seeps out of some trees.

Congrats on making money in your sleep but you’ve already shown us what it takes to get to that point (I.e., a lot of work in the cold), I assume that if/ when you calculate your hourly rate that it is still worth it.

Ronnie, thx. for asking. Yes it takes on a slightly lt. green tint, but is not the consistency of a gel, very water like, as it is water with about 2% sugar content. Once boiled for a while it becomes syrup. As far as labor, the intensive part is installing new lines. After this year's install I am done doing that for a couple of years. Work load going forward will consist of tapping trees in Jan./Feb. and then walking the mains checking for vacuum leaks. I usually can work for 3 months and earn $$ to last 12. That leaves the summers open for boating. It is a much better deal than milking sheep/cows and making cheese 14/7/365.

What is sad is most people in this country think of that $hit syrup made in Chinese factories (which they call maple syrup) as the real thing...

@zipper I wish you guys much success with brand protection and labeling/marketing of your products, I'm afraid we are quite behind on those issues here, as compared to EU for example.

maybe we should start a sap/syrup thread,

to expand on Ronnie's question;
is maple sap a special substance and that's why it's harvested while other trees sap is the gooey tar mess or is the gooey mess something else and the ignorant just call it sap?

I believe there is a saying, goes something like "If you love what you are doing, you will never work a day in your life". Let's just say it pays the bills.
