After spending the last 10 years on the East coast I am moving to New Orleans end of this year (military orders).

Don’t have housing squared away yet but probably towards Slidell if I don’t get on-base quarters.

How’s the jet boating down there? Favorite places, launch ramps, dockside dining? Wife would prefer gator-free waters…

I boat mostly west of that area, but I am familiar with it. Slidell has a couple of dining spots in the Eden Isle area. Running southwest across Lake Pontchartrain from Slidell gets you to the West End lakefront of New Orleans, about 20-25 miles. Landry's, The Blue Crab, Felix's, and JB's are accessible by boat. About 25-30 miles west of Slidell along the Northshore gets you to the mouth of the Tchefuncte River. Again, there are several restaurants upriver at Madisonville and also a scenic boat ride further up. East of Slidell through The Rigolets gets you to the Pearl River and the Mississippi gulf coast depending on sea conditions.

Move to Bay St Louis or Pass Christian, MS if possible.
1 hr trip to work, but much calmer life and social options.

Plus we have multiple islands.

A huge population of New Orleaneans & surrounding area buy 2nd homes over here for boating.

Trust me, I know.
I wire up their camps & boat lifts.

I can't argue with this idea. BSL and Pass Christian are nice areas. And yes, lots of Yats there on weekends and holidays.

I have to ask, what's a "Yats?"

Lots of people in and around New Orleans have a very distinct accent. Especially St. Bernard Parish. One of the greetings they use is pronounced "Where yat?". Meaning "How are you?" or "How are you doing?".
