Our house build is finally looking like a house!

framing.jpg

At the front left is the oversized garage (will have an 8' high door) with a large exterior parking pad. The future boat will likely spend the winter in the garage (when we are not travelling - can't wait to retire!) and the rest of the time on the parking pad.

One interesting thing about this build is that much of the work is being done by Amish craftsmen include Masons, Framers, Exterior Finishers, Trim & Finish Carpenters and Cabinet Makers. And yes, the Amish do use modern power tools in the building of a home. These gentlemen come from an Amish community located outside of Dover, De, about 45 miles north of our community.

We motored over to the Shipyard today to be hauled out this weekend. I cleaned up our slip and removed this fender that had been in the water since May 15. Five months later we have all kinds of critters growing. Some slime, alot of zebra mussels and who knows what else.

Can’t wait to see the hull of the boat.

Can’t wait to see the hull of the boat.

The hull has anti fouling paint, but there are spots they will grow. If I had that on the hull I'd never get above 3kts speed. lol. What is the old saying?...Moss does not grow on a rolling stone.

Spent a good part of this weekend staining my new fence 170 feet, both sides. Used a new sprayer, saved a lot of time. Still looks dark but will be a touch lighter tomorrow as it soaks in a bit. Also used a bit to spray the ornamental well that covers our cracked and beat up cable tv cover

We got back from Puerto Rico a few days ago. We went to visit my in-laws who we haven’t seen in almost two years due to Covid. (For those who may not know, Puerto Rico has an interesting history. They were a Spanish colony on their way to independence in 1897. However, in 1898 Spain ceded the island to the U.S. after the Spanish-American War. In 1917, P.R. became a U.S. territory and it’s people became U.S. citizens (just in time for the military draft for WWI))

My Father-in-law has an large avocado tree in their backyard. They almost lost the tree a couple of years ago because of Hurricane Maria, but the tree has come back big time! The tree is absolutely loaded with avocados. And they are big!

Guac for everyone!

I went to clean the boat and take pictures. December 27 I move 5000 miles away and I will miss another NY winter. I'm going through my things to sell what I can't bring or don't want to pay storage. The boat is the only thing that I would miss.

Getting ready to replace the spark plugs on my boat’s and waverunners’ engines. I misplaced my never seize and electrical grease so had to buy some more. So far I’m in about $150.

Love that grease and the dispenser. I have a few of those around!

Here is the 10 day forecast for the location I boated in last weekend when it was in the mid 80s, a week or so earlier it was it in the mid 90s. When boating season ends here in NCAL it ends quickly.

Nothing quite like 60k lbs of mass vibrating at ~7hz. Support system designed so transmit nearly ZERO force into the ground. Spent the day putting strain gages on the machine to verify FEA work done during design.
